Stan Allen is the director and a professor of the Marine Science, Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding Technology Center. Which is part of the Virgina Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), the third largest US marine research institute and the first focused on coastal and estuarine areas.
Stan Allen has more than 20 years of experience in bivalve breeding programs and has developed tetraploid bivalve technology for the company 4Cs Breeding Technologies, whose patent was maintained until July 16th, 2015.
Stan Allen has experience in the application of biotechnology to fisheries management and aquaculture, specifically in the following areas: chromosome set manipulation in shellfish and fish, cytogenetics and gametogenesis in polyploid shellfish, selection and breeding in aquaculture, genetic conservation in fisheries and shellfish culture techniques.
It has an extensive list of scientific publications in international reference journals.
